Justin Havens

Chair of the Communications Committee, Trustee & Volunteer, Science & Research Committee

I have had an eclectic career in the military, engineering, management consultancy, and I retrained as a therapist in 2008. After working for a variety of agencies including a local NHS IAPT service, I now work in private practice and provide supervision to EMDR therapists. I completed my PhD in treating traumatic nightmares in 2019, and joined the board of the EMDR Association in March 2020.  I am passionate about making therapy as effective and efficient as possible, and believe that therapy outcomes are linked to therapist knowledge, skills and competency.

Why did you choose to train (or retrain) in EMDR therapy?

Early on in my second career as a therapist, I recognised that there was something ‘special’ about EMDR that set it apart from other therapies, and once I started to practice it, I was not disappointed!

What is your favourite place on the planet?

On the water on a stand up paddle board – it’s the closest I will ever come to walking on water!
