Psychosis SIG

The EMDR for Psychosis SIG had its first meeting online on 26th January 2023. The SIG meets every other month, on the 4th Thursday of the month, 2-3pm.

The SIG is based on the understanding of psychosis as arising from experiences of trauma and adversity. EMDR for psychosis involves identifying the trauma memory networks underlying psychotic experiences and targeting these for reprocessing. Additionally, many clients experience psychosis and its treatment as traumatic and these trauma memories can also be addressed through EMDR.

The SIG focuses upon:

  • Presentations of clinical work with themes
  • Discussion of relevant research, papers, chapters
  • Link between research and clinical work
  • Considering adaptations for the client group
  • Bringing creativity into the work
  • Alongside support and encouragement for this way of working, perhaps in services less used to considering trauma-focused work for psychosis
