Abstract
The workshop will focus on working with people with Personality Disorders, particularly Borderline PD / EUPD, but also looking at other Personality Disorders. We will focus on issues that may arise with the standard protocol for people with different PDs, particularly with regard to cognitions.
We will look at times when adaptations to standard protocol are needed and we will consider the link to trauma and structural dissociation.
In the afternoon we will look at ways of working with early and non-verbal trauma, referencing Katie O’Shea, Sandra Paulsen and Helene Delucci. This will be applicable to other clients, not just those with PDs.
The event will consist of teaching, clinical examples, discussion and practice.
Aims
- To help participants to understand the issues around delivering EMDR therapy to clients with Personality Disorders.
- To promote the use of standard protocol and when adaptations may be needed.
- To appreciate EEDI issues and hoe PD and early trauma affect people with different cultural backgrounds.
- To practice ways of working.
- To understand and practice working with non-verbal trauma.
Presenter
Dr Louise Mackinney is a UKCP registered psychotherapist and EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant and a Training Facilitator. She is a trustee and the Secretary of the EMDR Association UK and the Secretary of the Kent Regional Group. Her doctoral dissertation involved research on what EMDR therapists think they need to know.
