EMDR with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) and EMDR with Personality Disorder: A practical workshop

A split day CPD event with 6 CPD credits, facilitated by Kate Chartres.

Morning Session: EMDR with FND

  • To have an increased understanding of what persistent physical symptoms including FND are/ and why they are important.
  • Client case studies and outcomes will bring the session to life allowing an understanding of what it is like for people to live with these symptoms.
  • The session will cover a step-by-step guide for each phase of EMDR treatment, utilising clinical examples.

Afternoon Session: EMDR with Personality Disorder

  • Expand knowledge of emotional dysregulation development and diagnostic frameworks, utilising Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) informed principles.
  • Build empathy by understanding the lived experiences of individuals with mBPD.
  • Highlight the critical role of validation when working with this client group.
  • Explore how trauma—including trauma associated with healthcare experiences—shapes individuals’ mental health.
  • Apply a trauma-informed framework that integrates the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model in preparation for EMDR.
  • Develop practical skills for EMDR, focusing on preparation and tailored approaches for desensitization and processing, aligned with the 8-phase model.

Both sessions aim to create a respectful and inclusive space for clinicians, practitioners, and others seeking to enhance their skills in working with diverse client groups, including those from underserved and marginalized communities.

In person full day event on Friday 6th November 2026 at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, set in a beautiful landscaped garden laid out in the 18th Century.

Bio

Kate Chartres is an EMDR Consultant with extensive experience in Liaison Psychiatry. Her work spans hospital settings, accident and emergency departments, focusing on clients navigating self-harm and suicide recovery, and with outpatients with clients presenting with functional neurological disorders and other persistent physical symptoms. Now in private practice, Kate serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer for London City University’s Liaison Mental Health module and has delivered dynamic, skills-based training at Sunderland University. She specializes in emotional dysregulation and complex trauma and body based symptoms, particularly supporting individuals who face systemic barriers within healthcare services. Within Kate’s independent practice she continues to work with a mix of clinical presentations including complex trauma and those with ‘of the body’ symptoms. With her engaging teaching style and use of clinical examples, Kate makes complex concepts accessible and actionable for diverse audiences.
