EMDR & The Power of the Relationship
Saturday, January 23, 2021 9:30am – 1pm (online event via Zoom)
3 EMDR Association CPD points awarded for this event.
In follow-up to her article “The Girl in the Mirror”: The Power of Relationship in EMDR Therapy in the Summer 2020 issue of EMDR Therapy Quarterly, we are delighted that Jessica Woolliscroft, EMDR Consultant, will be sharing her expertise and relevant theory on the intricacies and power of relational dynamics, when working with complex EMDR presentations.
Jessica will draw upon her case study and share findings from the work of Norcross (2011) to focus upon protecting the EMDR therapy process from external, interpersonal and intrapsychic intrusions, whilst remaining attentive to the vital importance of the emotional containment, offered through valuing intersubjectivity – to optimise the client’s engagement, experience, and treatment outcomes.
The workshop will also include a self-reflective break-out session, and Q&A’s.
This will be an online event (via Zoom), and CPD Certificates will be issued following receipt of feedback forms.
Fee: £30 for members and £35 for non-members.
Learning objectives include:
- Assessing the suitability of new clients for EMDR, weighing up the interaction of their implicit/explicit traumas, ability to self soothe and the nature of their relationship with the therapist. This assessment approach also facilitates EMDR case conceptualisation.
- Enhancing awareness of the external; interpersonal and intrapsychic forces that can sabotage trauma therapy/EMDR and what relational factors can inoculate against these forces.
- An EMDR treatment planning approach that can be used where the presenting information and history is contradictory and confusing.
