I am a clinical psychologist and have worked in the field of trauma for most of my career, both in the NHS and privately. I headed up a EMDR service for 12 years at the Traumatic Stress Service, Maudsley Hospital. I am an accredited EMDR Trainer, Consultant and Child & Adolescent Consultant.
I happened to read Francine Shapiro’s original article in the Journal of Traumatic Stress in the early 90s and was fascinated and very curious! There were no EMDR trainings in the UK but I started using EMDR with clients. In 1994 Francine Shapiro came to the UK and offered the first EMDR Level I training which I attended. I completed Level II in Amsterdam, went straight on to become an EMDR facilitator and then an EMDR accredited trainer. It still never ceases to amaze me how powerful and effective EMDR therapy is.
