EMDR statement on UK Supreme Court ruling
07 May, 2025
Following the UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of sex, trans and non-binary people remain protected from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation under the Equality Act 2010. The ruling affirms women’s rights as a protected characteristic, particularly regarding pregnancy, maternity, and protection from risks that specifically affect women. However, we recognise that this decision has caused anxiety and concern among trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning individuals.
Our membership is made up of people with diverse, intersectional experiences and characteristics. This diversity of opinion and belief is a strength that continues to enrich our association. We acknowledge that gender and experiences of gender are varied, and we respect and support everyone, regardless of how they identify.
By promoting and supporting diversity, we aim to create an environment where all members feel valued and supported. As an association, we are committed to full inclusion, serving our membership, and removing barriers to improve our services, guidance, and resources, as set out in our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.
We support our trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning peers, colleagues, clients, and neighbours.
