“I am delighted to support the EMDR Association UK and Ireland and raise awareness of this wonderful, often-life saving, and most effective of therapeutic treatments. I was very fortunate not to have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after spending five years in captivity, but there are many people with this debilitating and life threatening condition, who could be helped if they knew about EMDR.
The therapy has recently been approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the treatment of PTSD in both adults and children, and I hope that this endorsement and the implementation of WHO’s Mental Health Action Plan will further its use throughout the world, benefitting many more people who have had terrible experiences they are struggling to come to terms with.
EMDR is widely used by the MoD in the treatment of PTSD in military personnel, but it can also help people whose trauma has been brought on by a wide range of events, such as the death of a friend, an accident or abuse. Treatment is available through an NHS referral as well as privately.”
